It's been a weird week for Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte.

The three-time All-Star did not show up for Monday's series opener against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park and was placed on the restricted list, missing the entire series with a personal matter. He later had an MRI, which revealed left knee inflammation.

On Thursday, Marte met with Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo and general manager Mike Hazen for a few hours to discuss the events of the previous week. Hazen announced that Marte received an injection in his knee and will head to the 10-day injured list.

Arizona is hopeful Marte will be able to return from the IL shortly after he's eligible. They need him back ASAP, as they're only one game out of the third Wild Card spot in the National League.

While he's having a bit of a down season by his standards, the 32-year-old slugger is still having a good year with 21 home runs, 67 RBI, a .760 OPS and 1.8 WAR in 118 games.
