The outfield is a clear need for the Philadelphia Phillies this offseason, regardless of whether Bryce Harper moves back to first base or not.
Brandon Marsh was an All-Star this year, but he really struggled in the second half. Justin Crawford is a talented young player, but he does not have much power, and until he proves he can handle left-handed pitching, he should not be relied on as an everyday player.
The best free agent outfielders available are Seiya Suzuki and Randy Arozarena, but perhaps the Phillies should explore the trade market. Steven Kwan is a name to keep an eye on. He is one year away from free agency and has been involved in trade rumors for years.
The Cleveland Guardians don't generally spend big, and could look to trade Kwan before he walks in free agency for no return. He is a four-time Gold Glover in left field and is a finalist for a Gold Glove in center field this year.
Kwan is not going to hit for power, but he is going to be a steady force in any lineup. He does not chase, whiff or strike out a ton, and has one of the best walk rates in baseball. He is exactly the kind of player the Phillies would want in front of Harper or Kyle Schwarber in a lineup, and defensively, there may not be anyone better in the outfield.
He has a .739 career OPS, but his ability to make contact and put the ball in play is his calling card. He would be another left-handed bat, but he can hit both righties and lefties well, using all fields.
