The Los Angeles Dodgers are getting ready for the National League Division Series, but one player in their organization just made an important decision on his future.
Alek Thomas was acquired by the Dodgers in May through a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He spent most of the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, but did play seven big-league games with the Dodgers. All seven of his appearances with the Dodgers in the big leagues this year came with Andy Pages on the injured list.
He had a .211/..250/.263 slash line with the Dodgers. He had three RBIs and one extra-base hit in his short stint with the team. However, in Triple-A, he hit .305 with a .915 OPS with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He had 11 home runs, and will now look to land with a team where he can make a bigger impact.
Thomas is a solid defender and played in 143 games for the Diamondbacks last season. He had a .249 batting average and was a serviceable player.
Since he was outrighted this year, has more than three years of service time and has been outrighted multiple times in his career, he is allowed to elect free agency. He is under club control through 2028 for whichever team he signs with.
Thomas was not a game-changing player for the Dodgers, but he did help fill a void for the team with Pages hurt. He has played in a total of 455 big league games and made his debut in 2022.
