The Chicago Cubs received a major scare last weekend when Alex Bregman got hit in the face by a foul ball during Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Fortunately, the injury wasn't too serious. After missing the Cubs' series against the Miami Marlins this week, Bregman is back in Chicago's lineup for Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader at Fenway Park.
Bregman will face one of his former teams, the Boston Red Sox, whom he left in free agency last offseason to sign with the Cubs. The split has worked out well for both sides, as both clubs are playoff-bound this year.
Bregman was slumping a bit before his injury but will look to end his season on a high note. He's hit well at Fenway Park throughout his career, batting .283/.389/.509 with 13 home runs, 25 doubles and 44 RBI in 77 career games there.
After missing him this week, Chicago is happy to have him back just in time for the postseason, where his championship experience and clutch hitting could give them a significant boost.
