As the 2026 MLB regular season winds down, the NL MVP award looks like it's Pete Crow-Armstrong's to lose.
The 24-year-old center fielder smashed two more home runs on Wednesday, powering the Chicago Cubs to an 8-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves. He also tripled and walked, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
With 44 home runs, Crow-Armstrong is just one behind Kyle Schwarber for the Major League lead. He also now holds the record for most single-season home runs by a left-handed batter in Cubs history, breaking a tie with Hall of Famer Billy Williams, who clobbered 42 in 1970.
It's been a dominant and historic campaign for Crow-Armstrong, who leads MLB in WAR, runs, games played, and total bases. He's also played elite defense in center field and has stolen 37 bases, putting him on the brink of becoming the seventh member of MLB's exclusive 40/40 club.
The two-time All-Star still has nine games left to add to his impressive totals, so time will tell if he gets there.
