Andy Pages has been out with a left-hand fracture and has not played since Aug. 21.
With the postseason around the corner, the Dodgers will need him back to make a World Series run, and he is close to returning. He has already started a hitting progression, and the Dodgers revealed their plans for him.
According to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya, Dave Roberts said the plan for Pages is to activate him on the final homestand, starting Friday against the San Francisco Giants, and forgo a rehab assignment. Getting Pages back in center field every day could do wonders for the Dodgers' offense. As a whole, the team ranks 17th in runs in the second half.
Pages was an All-Star this season, slashing .272/.338/.797 with 21 home runs. He had a strong regular season last year as well, but he was terrible at the plate in the postseason. He made up for it with a phenomenal catch to save Game 7 of the World Series, but he will be looking to redeem himself as a hitter.
Since Aug. 22, when Pages missed his first game with the injury, the Dodgers rank 15th in runs, 24th in batting average, 26th in slugging and 26th in home runs. Not all of the falloff is because Pages is hurt, but he was a big part of their offense, and getting him back will help. Getting Shohei Ohtani back in the lineup will also play a big role.
