Alec Bohm was an All-Star for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2023, but his name has been floating around in trade rumors for the last two years.
The Phillies decided not to trade him, but he will be a free agent after this season ends. His numbers have declined since his All-Star season, but he is still a solid player. He should have no trouble drawing interest in free agency, and Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter predicted he would be the opening day third baseman fr the Detroit Tigers.
Bohm is going to be cheaper than other free agent options, but could be a great player for the Tigers to add if they want to get back to playing baseball in October. He has a .700 OPS for the season, which is not great, but in the second half he has really turned things on.
In 51 gamnes since the All-Star Break, Bohm has a .306/.366/.457 slash line and four home runs. He has looked much better as of late and could be a key player for the Phillies in October. The Phillies have moved Bohm to first base as part of a series of moves to accommodate Luis Arraez at second base. However, if they retain Arraez, they could move Harper back to first base and look for a new outfielder on the open market, leaving Bryson Stott at third base.
The Tigers have had a very disappointing season, and perhaps Bohm is a player who helps them get back on track. However, the real question is whether he's done enough in the second half to convince Dave Dombrowski to keep him around.
