The New York Yankees have the second-best record in the American League despite their offense being very inconsistent at times.
The Yankees have been without Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton for most of the season, and Cody Bellinger also missed a chunk of the season. That, paired with the fact that All-Star second baseman Jazz Chisholm is having a very down year, has led to some less-than-ideal numbers from the Yankees offense at times.
The Yankees rank 13th in runs scored this season and rank 18th in the month of August. However, Bellinger is back now, and Aaron Judge is getting close to returning. Their returns will certainly help, but perhaps a bigger development is that Chisholm is getting hot at the plate.
In his last 20 games, Chisholm has a .305 batting average and an .824 OPS. He has 10 walks, a homer, a triple and two doubles in that span as well. He has also stolen 10 baes in the last 20 games. In the last 20 games, he has raised his batting average by 11 points and his OPS by 18 points.
When Chisholm is going right, he is one of the most dynamic players in baseball. He is a major threat on the bases and has some serious pop in his bat. He hit 31 home runs last season and posted an .813 OPS. He currently leads the American League in stolen bases with 40.
He was great for the Yankees in Game 3 of last year's Wild Card Series against the Boston Red Sox, and if he can get back to how he was last year, he will be a force to be reckoned with in the Yankees lineup.
