Luis Garcia Jr. has turned out to be a great addition for the New York Yankees.
Garcia has been the team's regular first baseman since the trade deadline, allowing Ben Rice to serve as the designated hitter. With Giancarlo Stanton expected to miss the rest of the season, that alignment could stick for the rest of the year.
Garcia has a .306/.354/.569 slash line with five home runs for the Yankees. He was having a great year for the Washington Nationals as well, and is under contract through 2027. However, his last six games have been sensational at the plate.
He had a four-hit game against the Houston Astros on Tuesday, hitting a homer as well. He followed it up with a three-hit game with another homer on Wednesday. He has 11 hits and four home runs in his last six games, and he is getting hot at the right time.
The Yankees are about to take on the Boston Red Sox in a very important series that could decide whether they go to Fenway Park or stay at Yankee Stadium for the first round of the postseason. It could also dictate whether they can win the American League East or not.
Since Aug. 3, he has the 12th-best OPS in the American League. Since Aug. 17, he has the fifth-best OPS in all of baseball.
