Chad Tracy was named the interim manager of the Boston Red Sox after Alex Cora was fired, and he is still operating under the "interim" tag.
Since taking over for Cora, Tracy has a 61-42 record and has saved the Red Sox season. The team looked destined for a long, miserable season, but Tracy has got the team back on track. Aided by a 15-game winning streak, he has the Red Sox in postseason position.
According to MassLive's Chris Cotillo, a source said it's more likely than not that Tracy will get the full-time managerial job before next season.
“Since firing Alex Cora, the Red Sox front office has certainly discussed other names," Cotillo wrote on Monday. "At this time, though, it seems Chad Tracy has the edge, albeit no guarantee.”
While the Red Sox will certainly make sure they explore all of their options, moving on from Tracy seems unwise. For one, he clearly has the clubhouse's respect. Second, he has done nothing to show he is incapable of leading the Red Sox to where they want to go.
He took over a roster with underperforming players and managed countless injuries, and still got the Red Sox to where they are right now. The team has all the pieces it needs to make a run to the World Series, and it's hard to imagine them doing that without the efforts of Tracy this season.
