The New York Yankees offense is missing some key bats right now, and their tremendous pitching is being let down as of late.
Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton all being hurt certainly is not doing the Yankees offense any favors, but they are still in a position to make the postseason. In the last 30 days, they are 15-13, and their offense has been one of the worst in baseball.
Since Jul. 17, the Yankees rank 29th in runs scored, with only the Los Angeles Angels behind them, and have the worst batting average in baseball. They have the highest strikeout rate in all of baseball in that span as well. They rank 18th in walk rate as well. The only thing the offense has done relatively well is steal bases, ranking seventh in that category.
Despite that, they have somehow managed to maintain a record over .500 in their last 28 games. That is in large part because of how good their pitching staff has been. Their team ERA since Jul. 17 is a league-best 2.81. The second-ranked team is the Detroit Tigers at 3.24.
Bellinger is starting a rehab assignment soon, and Judge has started playing catch. Stanton is still in a running progression and could be nearing a rehab assignment as well. Those are three huge bats that could save the Yankees offense.
Judge and Bellinger were All-Stars this year and are the type of players who can carry an offense. Right now, the Yankees are hitting as badly as they have all year and are still finding ways to win games. With their offense at full force and the pitching staff they have, they could make a deep run in October.
