The New York Yankees have a big decision to make this upcoming offseason when it comes to two-time All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Chisholm is going to be a free agent after the season. It hasn't been a great campaign for Chisholm, to say the least. The 28-year-old is batting .216 right now in 113 games. That's a far cry from his career .243 batting average.
Last year, Chisholm blasted 31 home runs and drove in 80 runs in 130 games. This season, Chisholm has 17 home runs and 48 RBIs in 113 games played.
He hasn't been the same and the Yankees are going to have to decide whether they want to pay up and bring him back in 2027, or let him walk.
The Yankees could offer him the qualifying offer, but New York insider Greg Joyce of The New York Post made it sound like that won't be happening.
As for Chisholm, I don’t see the Yankees making him a qualifying offer,” Joyce wrote. “With the way his season has gone, he seems like a prime candidate to take a one-year pillow contract somewhere (a la Gleyber Torres) to try to rebuild his value. And if he does, it probably would be for less than whatever the qualifying offer is set at (it was roughly $22 million this year).”
This is a Yankees insider we're talking about making it sound like the qualifying offer won't happen after the season. It's certainly realistic that we may not see Chisholm in New York beyond the 2026 campaign, but there is time for him to turn it around.
