It's been a tough year for Francisco Lindor. Not only are his New York Mets last in the NL East, but they also traded away several stars at the MLB Trade Deadline, waving the white flag on 2026.
Lindor was nearly one of those stars, as his name surfaced in trade rumors prior to the deadline. The Mets decided to keep him, however, at least for now.
The superstar shortstop is currently on a 10-year, $341 million deal that runs through 2031. On Tuesday, he told the New York Post that he plans to remain with New York for the rest of his contract despite the team's declining performance over the last two seasons.
“When I signed up here, it was to be in the good times and bad times and to win,” he told The Post.
The five-time All-Star also expressed confidence in the team's leadership and direction.
“We have the right guys,” Lindor said. “Stearns is the right guy. That is No. 1. We have one of the best owners in sports history, because [Cohen] is going to go always with the energy that needs to be put into the team. When you are in a big market there is not such a thing as rebuilding. There is a little bit of transition, that is it. You can’t afford to rebuild in big markets, so I think we are working toward the right place. We have not taken a step backwards.”
The Mets clearly have, however, and so has Lindor, who's having his worst offensive season in five years. Time will tell if both can get back on track in the near future.
