The Toronto Blue Jays reportedly claimed Paul Sewald off waivers on Wednesday.

Sewald has played in the big leagues for 10 seasons, but was designated for assignment on Monday. The veteran reliever has a 6.23 ERA this season, and the Blue Jays could look to give him a chance in their bullpen. At the very least, he is an option to eat innings when the bullpen is thin.
Every game matters for the Blue Jays even more now. They are just 2 1/2 games out of a wild card spot despite trading away some players at the deadline. The American League is weaker than in years past this year, and one hot stretch is all it might take to get Toronto back into the postseason.
They went to the World Series last year, and if they get in, they have the pieces to make a run. Dylan Cease and Jose Soriano are a fine duo to have in the rotation. Trey Yesavage is on the shelf right now, but the team has not ruled out a return.
Sewald is not a game changer by any means, but he is an experienced arm the team could call on. He has a 4/30 ERA and has pitched in 426 big-league games. He has 13 postseason appearances, but has not done well in October. He did pitch in the 2023 World Series, however.
