Carlos Rodón was an All-Star last year but has not been available for most of this season.
Rodón started the year on the injured list after offseason elbow surgery. He returned but was back on the injured list with left elbow inflammation after nine starts. He has started his latest rehab assignment and made his first outing on Saturday. He surrendered three earned runs in 2 2/3 innings of work.
During an appearance on "Talkin' Yanks," manager Aaron Boone revealed that Rodón will make his next rehab start on Thursday or Friday. The most important part of this rehab assignment for Rodón is making sure he recovers well after starts and feels good. The last thing the Yankees want is to bring him back to the big leagues, only for the injury to come back.
Getting Rodón back will do wonders for the Yankees. The offense is scuffling right now, but pitching has kept them in games. Adding Rodón back to the rotation gives Aaron Boone another reliable starter to trot out. Cam Schlittler, Max Fried and Gerrit Cole have been amazing this year. Now, with Rodón, the Yankees will have a big four capable of carrying them into the postseason, and potentially to the World Series.
Rodón's return will mean Will Warren or Ryan Weathers will be sent to the bullpen. Rodón has looked good when he has pitched this year, posting a 3.30 ERA and 52 strikeouts in his nine starts. His walk numbers have been higher than usual, but he is getting outs.
Rodón's workload in his next rehab start will likely be increased. It's unclear how many rehab outings he will need before the Yankees call him back up.
