The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Tarik Skubal at the trade deadline, putting them in a great position to three-peat.
However, Skubal will be a free agent soon and recently made some comments on a podcast about his future desires.
"I would love to play my entire career in Detroit," Skubal said on "Pardon My Take" on Friday. "Hopefully those negotiations can pick back up in November, once the playoffs are done. Hopefully, they’re involved with everything. I would love to return”
Many fans were not pleased with his comments, feeling that he was not focused on helping the Dodgers, and his heart was still in Detroit. However, Freddie Freeman noted that he understands where Skubal is coming from.
"You’re not just gonna flip a switch and be, like, ‘Oh, I’m great,’” Freeman told the New York Post's Dylan Hernandez.
Freeman came over to the Dodgers in free agency after spending his entire career with the Atlanta Braves. It was not an easy transition for him either, as he had always noted that he wanted to be a Brave for life. However, he has been pivotal in bringing multiple championships to the Dodgers. He noted that he thinks Skubal's home debut will help him get over the Tigers and help him focus on right now.
“When you see 50-some thousand people rally around you, it’s definitely going to give him a more amped-up feeling,” Freeman said.
Freeman also noted that it was natural for Skubal to miss his old team.
"You have all these friends, all these people you came up with in the minor leagues that are now with you as teammates,” Freeman said. “You had 15-hour bus rides together. You’re doing all these things together. The organization invested in you. You invested in them. You can do everything you can to win a World Series, and it doesn’t happen, and then you get traded. So, you’re going to have emotions.”
