In 2021, Jasson Domínguez was the New York Yankees' top prospect, but he has not panned out in the big leagues.
He showed flashes last season, posting a .719 OPS in 123 games. The Yankees had Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge in the outfield to start the year, so Domínguez's opportunities were going to be limited again. However, injuries gave him some extended run, but he failed to do much with it.
HE started the year in Triple-A, was called up in April, and then landed on the injured list. He was activated from the injured list on June 13 and was sent back to Triple-A on Aug. 4. This season, he has a .230/.270/.380 slash line in 53 games.
The Yankees really need to find a way to trade him now that Spencer Jones has emerged as a legit option in the outfield. However, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, rival clubs believe his trade value has plummeted, meaning the Yankees may not get much in return.
The Yankees could have sold high on Domínguez in the offseason, especially after retaining Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger. However, they chose not to. It's likely that Grisham is gone next season, but the Yankees still would not need Domínguez.
Judge, Bellinger, Jones and Heliot Ramos figure to be the Yankees' core outfield group next season. Keeping Domínguez around would only add to the crowding, and he does not bring much to the table. At this point, the Yankees should take whatever they can get for him, and fans should not hold their breath for a big return.
