Kyle Harrison returned from the injured list for the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, and he didn't skip a beat.
Making his first start since July 8, Harrison picked up right where he left off, dominating the Pittsburgh Pirates over five shutout innings. He allowed just one hit and one walk while racking up 10 strikeouts, outdueling Pirates ace Paul Skenes and pitching the Brewers to a 4-2 victory.
The 24-year-old lefty ended on a high note, fanning the last eight batters he faced. He departed after only 69 pitches, however, due to cramps in both calves while warming up for the sixth inning.
He took a shot of pickle juice and a hot cinnamon mixture from Milwaukee's training staff in an effort to combat the cramping, but to no avail.
Accordingly, Harrison finished two whiffs shy of the MLB record for most consecutive strikeouts. He still earned the win, however, improving to 9-2 with a 2.84 ERA.
Assuming his cramps don't linger, he'll try to make his next scheduled start against the San Diego Padres early next week.
