The New York Yankees called up their top prospect, George Lombard Jr., for his MLB debut on Tuesday, and he looked great.
Lombard played great defense and even got his first MLB hit and home run. Overall, he went 1-for-2 with a walk, which is not anything special, but it was the best the Yankees have looked at shortstop in a while. A former Yankees outfielder took notice and made a bold prediction for him.

Lombard Sr. and Maybin's time in the big leagues did not overlap, but he is a known figure in baseball. He is currently the bench coach of the Detroit Tigers and was in attendance for his son's debut.
The captain title for the Yankees is a prestigious one, and Maybin thinks Lombard has the makeup to be the next Yankees captain. Aaron Judge currently holds the title and was named captain in 2022. Before him, it was Derek Jeter, from 2003-2014.
It's not just a title the Yankees hand out to the best player on the team. The title has been held by just 16 players in the team's long history.
