A slumping New York Yankees offense may seek some reinforcements before the trade deadline. Jeff Passan identified an aspirational option for the Bronx Bombers.

Passan called Hunter Goodman a "dream match" for the Yankees in an article published on Thursday morning. The ESPN insider warned that the Colorado Rockies would demand a huge return for the star catcher.

"With three more years of club control beyond this season, Goodman would require a haul," Passan wrote. "He doesn't walk much and strikes out plenty, the latter already an issue for New York. But for a Yankees team with a real shot at winning the AL this year, letting perfect be the enemy of good is dangerous, and if they can get Goodman, they should."

Goodman has proved his 2025 breakout wasn't a fluke, earning his second straight All-Star nod as a reserve. He trails only Kyle Schwarber and Yordan Alvarez with 27 home runs after going deep 13 times in June.

Any team pursuing the 26-year-old shouldn't worry much about his ability to flourish away from Coors Field. Goodman is slugging .635 with 18 home runs on the road this season.

The Yankees already lead the American League with 132 home runs, but the lineup has floundered recently with Aaron Judge sidelined. They've scored just 50 runs over their last 18 games, 14 of which they've lost.

Their catchers are collectively hitting a dismal .173/.250/.252 with an MLB-worst .228 weighted on-base average, so the Yankees need an offensive boost behind the plate. While the Rockies may not shop Goodman, Passan also provided a more likely alternative.

Passan named Minnesota Twins backstop Ryan Jeffers as New York's "best match." The right-handed veteran and pending free agent is rehabbing from a hand injury that's kept him out of action since May.
