The Kansas City Royals' offense has opened this week on fire, and Tyler Tolbert is a big reason why.

The Royals have scored a whopping 31 runs on 41 hits over their last two games, teeing off on the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. Tolbert has led the way with five hits and a home run in both of those games, sparking Kansas City to back-to-back wins.

After going 2-for-2 on Saturday and 5-for-5 on Monday, Tolbert went 5-for-6 on Tuesday. Before flying out in his final at-bat on Tuesday, he had notched a hit in 12 straight plate appearances, tying a Major League record previously held by Johnny Kling and Walt Dropo.

Tolbert's feat hadn't been accomplished since 1952.

After hitting just one homer in his first 92 career games, Tolbert went yard in each of his last two. He also doubled on Monday while notching seven runs, four RBI and one steal during his historic three-game stretch.

Now in his second season, the 28-year-old speedster is batting .396/.434/.542 in 54 plate appearances over 30 games this season, raising his OPS from .475 to .976 over the last few days.

Tolbert has displayed strong contact skills since debuting in the Majors last year, batting .337 with an 18.9 percent strikeout rate. By comparison, the MLB strikeout rate has been 22.2 percent during that time.

He's also benefited from an unsustainable .390 BABIP, which will likely come down as he gets more plate appearances.
