The Los Angeles Dodgers have the most wins in baseball this season, and Dalton Rushing has played a big role in that.
With Will Smith injured, Rushing has become the primary catcher for Dave Roberts' squad. However, his outbursts and emotional play style have made him somewhat of a controversial player in the eys of the national media.
"I wouldn't say I try to do it," Rushing said on "Petros and Money" on Tuesday. "I think it just kind of is a little second nature, the competitive side of the game. When the competitive juices start flowing, it's kind of like a third-person view. Your body takes over and you just play the game as hard as you possibly can. That's honestly the way that I've looked at the occurrences that have happened this year. It's coming out of a competitive nature, and really just me making sure I can do whatever I can to make sure we win."
Historically, baseball has frowned upon players showing too much emotion, and Rushing may have rubbed some people the wrong way. However, he is not going to change who he is. He simply wants to win, and Dodgers fans may appreciate that about him.
Countless times this season, he has been seen getting angry in the dugout or arguing with the opposing team. He has even had some heated exchanges with umpires. It's just who he is, and as long as the Dodgers are winning, the fans and team will put up with it. However, if the team starts to lose more often or he stops producing, he may get less grace.
