Justin Wrobleski was not selected for the initial All-Star Game roster and was also passed up when the first three pitching replacements for the National League were announced.
Braxton Ashcraft, JesΓΊs Luzardo and Riley OβBrien were chosen to replace Paul Skenes, Jacob Misiorowski and Riley O'Brien on Tuesday. Wrobleski was once again asked about being passed up for the Midsummer Classic.
"Obviously it's disappointing," Wrobleski said on Tuesday, per MLB.com's Sonja Chen. "You want to be an All-Star. It's something that, regardless of the year, whenever, it's always a big deal. It's something I wanted to do. It's frustrating to not get that nod. But like I said before, it's just more reason to try and keep getting better. Hopefully I can gain the respect of players and everybody else and maybe be in there next year."
Wrobleski could still get the recognition he deserves if more pitchers drop out. His own teammate, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, may not be able to pitch in the All-Star Game, potentially opening the door for him. Yamamoto is scheduled to pitch over the weekend and may not be on schedule to pitch in Philadelphia.
Wrobleski has a 2.69 ERA, 73 strikeouts and an ERA+ of 156 this season. He is more than deserving of a nod, and he may be the next pitcher on the list of potential replacements. He is having, by far, the best year of his career and is a huge reason why the Dodgers have the best record in baseball.
