The Boston Red Sox have been a confusing team to follow this season, to say the least.

The expectations were high entering the season, but the Red Sox weren't able to live up to the hype across the first few months of the season. But things have shifted over the last two weeks. The Red Sox are 8-2 over their last 10 games and look like a club that could get back into the playoff mix.

Still, with the trade deadline approaching, there is speculation out there about where various pieces on the roster could go. For example, The Athletic's Jim Bowden called the Chicago Cubs the best fit for Sonny Gray.

"Chicago Cubs," Bowden wrote. "The Cubs have made it clear to opposing teams that trading for starting pitching is their top priority. If they think they can win the division, they’ll swing for the fences and make a run at Tarik Skubal, Joe Ryan or JosΓ© Soriano. However, their most realistic targets will probably be Sonny Gray, Robbie Ray or Freddy Peralta.

"Best fit: Sonny Gray, RHP, Boston Red Sox. The Cubs could offer Matt Shaw as the headliner in the package, and he would be a solid fit for Boston."

For the Cubs, they are a contender that is lacking pitching. Obviously, Gray would make sense for them. But the real question is whether Boston should trade him? If the Red Sox continue to play as they have over the last two weeks, that answer should be no.
