The Boston Red Sox opted to make significant changes to the coaching staff, but it hasn't resulted in a turnaround for the organization yet this season.
Boston fired manager Alex Cora and a handful of coaches when the club was 10-17 on the season. While the Red Sox didn't "fire" franchise legend Jason Varitek, they announced that his role would be "reassigned." Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow even said that Varitek has an "open invitation" to return.
"Tek has meant and means so much to this organization," Breslow said. "There will be an open invitation for him to remain in this organization for as long as he wants. I think those conversations will take place kind of in a private setting with [Sam Kennedy], and Tek and I. And obviously [I'm] confident and hopeful that we can work through that but also want to respect the time right now."
Right now, the Red Sox are 19-27 on the season right now. The pitching has been great, but the offense is still bad. The club made the changes, but the results haven't changed much.
It begs the question: Did the Red Sox do the right thing? We likely won't have a complete answer until the end of the regular season, but things clearly haven't just shifted overnight. Also, there clearly is a cohort of the fanbase who wish changes didn't come. For example, Georgia Tech baseball shared a photo of Varitek.

Varitek's wife, Catherine Varitek, responded to the post saying: "Congratulations!"
Then, a fan responded and asked them to return.
"I know this club doesn't deserve it, but please come back!!"

Catherine Varitek responded and certainly didn't hide their shot at Breslow.
"They have the 'smartest man in baseball' running the showโฆ theyโll be OK without Jason, thatโs what they wanted. Itโs whatโs best for the team," Varitek wrote.

So, there you have it. If you are a Red Sox fan hoping Varitek returns, it doesn't sound likely at all right now.
