One thing that has gotten fans' attention about the 2026 Boston Red Sox so far this season has been the club's brand-new on-base celebration for the campaign.
If you somehow haven't seen it yet, you can find a clip below of young infielder Marcelo Mayer at second base.
You may have been wondering why Marcelo Mayer started randomly doing this celebration.

Well, it’s not what you think it is. He might be imitating his teammate Roman Anthony in an old Tik Tok video of his that has been used in many baseball edits recently 😭 pic.twitter.com/rCQdMqZMdI
It's definitely a different look than what you'd typically expect. But, it's not exactly what you think. There was chatter that the celebration was in reference to an old TikTok video featuring Roman Anthony and Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed it on Tuesday while joining WEEI.
"There's a story behind that," Cora said. "There's a TikTok video somewhere of one of the players that the dance came from there. That's how it started. I saw it for the first time in Cincinnati and I turned around to one of the coaches and I go, 'Now, I've gotta explain to my boys what that's all about.'"
Here is the TikTok video, significantly more likely than not in question.
