It's been a tough start to the 2026 Major League Baseball season for the Boston Red Sox. No one is denying that fact.
But two weeks isn't a big enough sample size to truly judge a team. Right now, the Red Sox are 3-8 on the season after taking down the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night. Boston will go for a series win on Wednesday afternoon against Milwaukee with Sonny Gray on the mound. If the Red Sox come out on top, they will be 4-8 on the season. If Boston ends up losing, it will drop to 3-9.
Either way, there will be 150 games left in the regular season. Let's not forget that the Red Sox were right around .500 for much of the first half of the 2025 season before turning things around and going on to win 89 games. The club has enough talent to believe that they will find a way through. That hasn't stopped some wild takes, though. For example, on Monday, chants broke out at Fenway Park saying "Sell the team" as Boston fell against the Brewers.
“Oh sell the team” - John Henry, Red Sox owner hearing what the Boston crowd is chanting.

A bit aggressive for this time of the year, especially coming off an offseason in which the Red Sox did go out and make multiple big additions, like Ranger Suárez. After the game on Tuesday, Garrett Crochet responded to the noise while speaking to WEEI's Rob Bradford.
"It’s weird because regardless of how you feel about the ownership group, the chants always come with you guys make an error, you guys walk a run in, you guys strike out with the bases loaded. They are (expletive) on us, but not saying it. It’s weird,” Crochet said to Bradford. “It’s just passion, at the end of the day. We know when we’re doing bad. … I think it’s fair to want more and want us to get the job done and just play clean baseball. I don’t think that’s asking a lot of us to play clean baseball. ...
"We feel good. We feel united. It’s just doing the job. I feel like we hit the nail a ton about how the WBC didn’t give us the chance to mesh. That’s kind of every team. WBC or not, when there are a couple of new players in the locker room, you need to win the one-run games and just get the ball rolling any way you can to know this group can do it.”
Boston is going to be alright. It's been a tough start but Boston has the talent to turn it around.
