The Boston Red Sox signed Isiah Kiner-Falefa to give the team flexibility all over the place and it sounds like that idea already is coming in handy.

Boston announced some bad news on Monday. Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced that Romy González isn't ready to take part in baseball activities yet.

"No baseball activities," Cora said. "Only can play catch. So, we'll take it day by day. I think the injection takes time. It's been a tough offseason for him as far as like the shoulder. So, I know he's frustrated. I don't want to say disappointed because injuries are part of it. He has dealt with this throughout his career. But not being able to be with the team out there, I know it hurts him."

González, like Kiner-Falefa, can play all over the place. He was important in 2025, specifically at first base. Now, with him injured, Kiner-Falefa has been getting some work at first base. He hasn't appeared in a game at the position in the majors, as pointed out by Sean McAdam and Lauren Campbell of MassLive.com.

"Isiah Kiner-Falefa worked out at first base at JetBlue Park on Monday. The utility player has not played the corner position in the majors," McAdam and Campbell wrote. "The Red Sox don’t have a lot of depth options at first base behind Willson Contreras with Romy Gonzalez behind due to a shoulder injury and Triston Casas still recovering from major knee surgery. Kiner-Falefa, who has not played first in the majors, could be an option at all four infield positions this season."

The Red Sox signed Kiner-Falefa to be a super utility man and it already sounds like they're going to need him all over the place.
