The Boston Red Sox have a hole in the infield still and it arguably should be filled by Houston Astros slugger Isaac Paredes.
The Athletic's Chandler Rome reported that talks around the league have intensified around Paredes and different clubs. Rome mentioned Boston as a team with interest.
"What I can tell you, in conversations over the last 48-to-72 hours, is (that) the talks have intensified," Rome said. "There appears to be some pretty direct motivation, and it appears to me now that things are gaining some momentum. I have only heard Isaac Paredes, as what they are gaining momentum in.
"I've heard as many as five teams have shown legitimate and aggressive interest. ... The Boston Red Sox, as we know, they remain interested in Paredes, and then according to people I've talked to, the Pittsburgh Pirates have also picked up their pursuits there."
Paredes is someone who can play all over the infield, but specifically could fill in at second base with Marcelo Mayer at third base. He's just 26 years old with 30-plus homer upside from the right side of the plate. With Alex Bregman out there door, the Red Sox still need right-handed pop to add to the middle of the order.
You can't find much better than Paredes at this point. Plus, he has two seasons of control. If the Astros are going to let him go, it should be to Boston.
