The Boston Red Sox ranked 26th in home runs last season and were ranked 20th in slugging percentage.
Almost every position on the Red Sox next season already has an everyday player in it, and health will go a long way toward improving their slugging, but they should still look to make some changes.
Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, Willson Contreras, Adley Rutschman, Curtis Mead, Trevor Story and Caleb Durbin all figure to be everyday players. The Red Sox have Jarren Duran and Masataka Yoshida as well, but neither one of them should be in the lineup regularly, sharing left field and the designated hitter spot with Anthony.
Instead, the Red Sox should target Randy Arozarena. He is a three-time All-Star and has been an All-Star in two straight seasons with the Seattle Mariners. He had an .865 OPS last season and hit 26 home runs. He could have even better numbers playing half of his games at Fenway Park.
Red Sox insider Chris Cotillo recently noted that Yoshida was likely a "goner" and that a Jarren Duran trade was very much on the table after another down year. The Red Sox should 100% move on from both of them and bring in Arozarena.
He could share left field and the designated hitter spot with Anthony and add some much-needed pop to the lineup. When healthy, the Red Sox don't have many holes, but Arozarena could round out a very strong lineup as the Red Sox look to make a deep run next year.
Duran has declined ever since his All-Star season and has been involved in trade discussions for the last two years. Yoshida is due $18 million and simply has not lived up to expectations. It's time to move on from them.
