Nobody becomes a champion by accident, but Dustin May tests that theory.

May, a veteran right-hander who has barely been an average MLB pitcher over his inconsistent seven-year career, celebrated a World Series victory with his Milwaukee Brewers teammates on Wednesday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. While it was the Brewers' first title, for May, such celebrations have become commonplace.

Despite a career 4.12 ERA and 101 ERA+, the 29-year-old has now been part of four World Series-winning clubs. As with this season's Brewers, for whom he contributed a grand total of 36 innings in the regular season after being acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals, May was far from the most important piece on the 2020, 2024 and 2025 Los Angeles Dodgers. He wasn't always healthy or on the postseason roster -- he missed all of 2024 due to injury and was traded to the Boston Red Sox in the middle of 2025 -- but he was on those teams.

May deserves credit for contributing more to Milwaukee than he did to those Dodgers squads. He pitched 11 innings this postseason, compared to just 14 innings in the previous six years of his career. As X user @ByBlakeWilliams points out, it's possible May will have four World Series rings when next opening day dawns.

May has a mutual contract option for next season, which means the Brewers might want to lock him up soon. Having May on your roster sure seems to bring good mojo.
