It took 12 innings, but the Tampa Bay Rays finally earned their first win of the 2026 World Series.
Down 3-0 in the series and with their backs against the wall, the Rays outlasted the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 4, prevailing 4-3 in 12 innings at Tropicana Field.
After giving up a solo home run to Cooper Pratt in the top of the 12th, Tampa Bay was down to its final three outs. The resilient Rays rose to the occasion, reaching on an error and stringing together four straight hits to score a pair of runs and save their season.
According to OptaSTATS, it was only the fourth time in World Series history that a team staved off elimination with an extra-innings comeback. The other three teams -- the 1912 Boston Red Sox, 1986 New York Mets and 2011 St. Louis Cardinals -- all went on to win the series.

The difference, however, is that Tampa Bay's comeback occurred in Game 4 with the team already in a 3-0 hole.
The 1912 Red Sox's comeback came in Game 8, which was the final game of the series. The 1986 Mets and 2011 Cardinals both rallied in Game 6, setting up victories in Game 7.
The Rays still have a steep hill to climb, as only one team in MLB history has ever come back from a 3-0 postseason series deficit. However, Tuesday's win was a start.
