Unfortunately for the New York Mets, they didn't have much to celebrate this year. Their season was a disaster, producing a 74-88 record and a last-place finish in the NL East.
However, it wasn't all bad. On Monday, star shortstop Francisco Lindor was named the recipient of MLB's 2026 Roberto Clemente Award, which he will receive prior to Game 3 of the World Series tonight.
Like Clemente, Lindor is from Puerto Rico, making the award extra special.
βIt inspired my generation,β Lindor said of Clemente, via MLB.com. βHopefully, this inspires another generation to continue to care for others, continue to love your neighbors, continue to give back.β
Lindor, 32, just finished his 12th Major League season. Like Clemente, he's put together a Cooperstown-caliber career on the field while being a Hall of Famer person off the field. He's donated millions of dollars to charity and performed outstanding community service, making him a worthy recipient of this coveted award.
