Is It Finally Offseason For Yankees To Trade For Nolan Arenado?

It was not long ago that the New York Yankees were linked to Nolan Arenado in trade rumors, but this offseason might be the one when they get him pinstripes.

The Yankees have some clear needs in the infield, and what they do at second base could go a long way in dictating what happens at third base. If Anthony Volpe comes into the season as the everyday second baseman, Giancarlo Stanton is traded or released, Luis Garcia Jr. is at first base, and Ben Rice is the regular designated hitter, the Yankees could very much be in the market for a third baseman.

If the Yankees decide to move Garcia to second base, then Volpe could be the answer at third base. Regardless, the infield will look different next season, and Arenado could make a ton of sense if Volpe is at second base.

Arenado is going into the last year of his deal and is set to make $6 million. The Yankees would not be getting him in his prime, but he just had a great season and would certainly be an upgrade over their current options.

Arenado slashed .255/.331/.475 with 30 home runs and 86 RBIs. It was by far his best season since his last All-Star season in 2023.

The Arizona Diamondbacks could be looking to sell high on him, knowing he is likely headed toward retirement or a new team in free agency.

The Yankees would have to find a way to trade Ryan McMahon or simply cut ties with him and eat the loss. However, they cannot expect to win the World Series without upgrading at third base.
