The Milwaukee Brewers won Game 1 of the World Series behind five strong innings from Jacob Misiorowski.
He had only three strikeouts and has not been as dominant in the postseason as he was in the regular season. However, against a very tough Tampa Bay Rays lineup, he conceded just one run. As always, the velocity was noteworthy from Misiorowski.
His first pitch of the game clocked in at 103.5 mph, breaking Aroldis Chapman's record for the fastest pitch thrown in a World Series game. Chapman held the record with a 103.2 mph pitch in Game 2 of the 2016 World Series.
However, that was not the only record Misiorowski snatched from the current Boston Red Sox closer.
Misiorowski threw a total of 38 pitches of at least 100 mph in his Game 1 start. That broke Chapman's record of 24 pitches of at least 100 mph in Game 5 of the 2016 World Series.
It took 10 years for someone to light up the radar gun like Chapman did in the World Series, but someone has finally done it. Chapman, however, is still living up to his nickname: "The Cuban Missile"
He may be 38, but he can still touch triple digits. Chapman still holds the record for the fastest pitch officially recorded at 105.8 mph. Misiorowski set the record for the fastest pitch thrown by a starter earlier this year at 105.5 mph.
It feels like eventually Misiorowski will surpass Chapman for the fastest pitch ever recorded, but for now, Chapman can still hold the claim to the record.
