The New York Yankees could use some serious help in the infield, and the Miami Marlins could have the solution they're looking for.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is a free agent, and the Yankees should let him walk if he wants to be paid like a top-tier second baseman. They could view Anthony Volpe as the everyday second baseman after his strong showing at the end of the year, but they still have a hole at third base.

According to the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, the Marlins are willing to listen to offers for Otto Lopez and Xavier Edwards. The Yankees should do everything in their power to acquire one of them and move Volpe to third base, replacing Ryan McMahon.

"Though the Marlins aren’t believed to be shopping Lopez or Edwards, neither player is considered untouchable," wrote Jackson. "If a team is willing to offer a lot in return, Miami would listen."

Of the two, Lopez is the better player. He plays shortstop, but is capable of playing second base. He is a better defender than Edwards, has a little more power and led the league in hits.

Adding Lopez to play second base, and having Volpe at third base, even if he has to platoon there, would instantly improve the Yankees' offense.

Adding either Lopez or Edwards would not be cheap. Both are under control through 2029 and will be coveted by any team with a need up the middle. The Yankees would have to be willing to spend some serious capital to get either one of them.
