After winning their first National League pennant in 44 years, the Milwaukee Brewers have a chance to make history in the World Series.
If they beat the Tampa Bay Rays, it will be their first title in franchise history. It would also mean that in the 2026 MLB postseason, every series was won by the team with the better regular-season record.
That hasn't happened under MLB's current playoff format, which was adopted in 2022. In fact, it hasn't happened in any of the four major North American professional sports -- MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL -- during their current postseason formats.
The Brewers had the best record in baseball this year, going 103-59. The Rays had the AL's top record but won five fewer games than Milwaukee, finishing at 98-64.
No matter what happens in the Fall Classic, there will be a deserving champion and a first-time winner. If the Brewers prevail, however, it will cap off a truly unique postseason.
