Yandy Diaz was right.
Following the Tampa Bay Rays' 3-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in Game 5 of the ALCS on Sunday, Diaz declared that the Rays would end the series at Tropicana Field on Monday.
His prediction came true, as Tampa Bay beat the Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 to win the ALCS and advance to the World Series.
It's the third AL pennant in franchise history for the Rays, who debuted as an expansion team in 1998. They had the best record in the American League this year, going 98-64 and winning the AL East.
Monday was a fairly easy win for Tampa Bay, which took the lead in the second inning and never looked back. The Rays got another stellar start from Freddy Peralta, who earned the win and ALCS MVP honors with 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball. Diaz and Junior Caminero provided the firepower with two-run homers, propelling Tampa Bay to its third straight win.
The Rays will face the Milwaukee Brewers in the World Series, which begins on Friday in Milwaukee. Neither team has won a championship before, making this year's Fall Classic extra intriguing.
