Yankees Should Consider Replacing Ryan McMahon With This Free Agent

The New York Yankees acquired Ryan McMahon at last year's trade deadline, but things have not worked out in the Bronx.

He has a .211/.289/.349 slash line with the Yankees, and the Yankees clearly need an upgrade in the hot corner. He is due $16 million next season, and then will become a free agent. The Yankees should be able to trade him if they are willing to eat some of the money attached to him.

However, they will still need to find a replacement. Their top choice might be Teruaki Sato, but if he signs elsewhere, the Yankees should consider signing Alec Bohm, whose time with the Philadelphia Phillies could be done.

Bohm was an All-Star in 2024, posting a .779 OPS and hitting 15 home runs. Since then, his OPS is .717, and it was below .700 this year. However, he ended the year on a high note. He slashed .298/.369/.425 in the second half and hit a clutch home run in the National League Wild Card Series to keep the Phillies' season alive for one more game.

Bohm certainly hurt his free-agent value in the last two seasons, but he would still be an upgrade for the Yankees. He hit 15 home runs again this season, so the power is still there. He could see his numbers go up at a more hitter-friendly ballpark like Yankee Stadium as well. He has played only three games there in his career, but he has a .944 OPS in nine at-bats.
