Coming off a disappointing 76-86 season and a third-place finish in the AL West, the Seattle Mariners are in the market for a new manager.
After dismissing Dan Wilson from his managerial duties, the Mariners are looking for a new skipper this offseason. According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, Seattle is reportedly planning to meet with Houston Astros manager Joe Espada.
Espada, 51, has managed the Astros for the last three seasons, guiding them to a 256-229 regular-season record. He's led them to two playoff appearances as well, although his postseason record is 0-4.
Espada has proven to be a capable manager, helping Houston stay competitive despite losing several stars to free agency and trades during his tenure. He has playoff experience as well and seems like a good fit for the Mariners, especially if they can poach him from one of their division rivals.
Time will tell if Seattle hires Espada or goes in a different direction, but he's clearly qualified and a worthy candidate to replace Wilson.
