Veteran pitcher Rob Zastryzny has elected free agency from the Milwaukee Brewers organization, according to his MLB.com transaction log.
Zastryzny made his big league debut in 2016 and has pitched in 80 big league games. This year, he started on the injured list and missed a chunk of the season with a shoulder injury. He then proceeded to miss more time with a left trapezius strain. He did not pitch in the big leagues this year, but made 13 appearances for the Brewers in the minor leagues.
In 11 games in Triple-A, he had a 1.93 ERA this season. However, the Brewers outrighted him to Triple-A in September. Now that the season is over and the Brewers are not going to be calling on him in the postseason, he has elected free agency.
His 2026 season was a lost cause thanks to all of the injuries, but the 34-year-old has been an effective arm for the Brewers. He has a 2.12 ERA in 35 games in the big leagues in the last two seasons for the Brewers. Although he has seen limited action, he has shown that when he's healthy, he is a good arm to have.
His age and injury history are concerning, but he should be able to find a new team willing to give him a chance to prove himself in spring training.
The Brewers are very deep with pitchers, and it was always going to be hard for Zastryzny to find a role on their team this year. Next year, the Brewers will have nearly their entire bullpen back, and will also get Quinn Priester back on the pitching staff. Their No. 7 prospect, Tyson Hardin, could also make his debut.
Ultimately, things were too crowded for Zastryzny in the Brewers organization.
