The New York Yankees' season is over, and Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s future with the team is just one item on a long laundry list of things that need to be addressed for the team.
Chisholm posted a 31-homer, 31-steal season in 2025, and came into this season talking about a 50-50 season and winning MVP. He fell well short of those marks, posting a .711 OPS and hitting just 19 home runs. He did steal 41 bases, but going into free agency, he clearly lost himself some money.
"I do hope to be back," Chisholm said bluntly after the game, seen on "YES Network" decked out in Yankees gear.
Overall, Chisholm has been a solid player for the Yankees ever since they acquired him. However, he is bound to be looking for a massive payday, and the Yankees may be better off looking at other options at second base.
For starters, Anthony Volpe looked like a completely different player after being recalled from his demotion. With George Lombard Jr. at shortstop, looking like a key piece for the Yankees moving forward, Volpe could take over at second base.
Third base is still a huge question mark for the Yankees, but they have a player they clearly like on the roster to replace Chisholm at second base. Chisholm's ceiling is much higher than Volpe's, but the Yankees have to ask themselves if he's worth it.
He is not really an elite defender, and injuries have been a problem throughout his career. This year gave the Yankees a good look at what a bad year for Chisholm looks like, and they would be better off letting him walk and spending money on upgrades elsewhere.
