Max Fried is scheduled to start Game 3 of the American League Division Series, but his girlfriend is expecting to give birth in the coming days.
Fried confirmed that his family is expecting a child to be born soon, but it will not impact his status as the Game 3 starter.
"I'd not like to get too into the personal stuff, but that's true," Fried told reporters on Tuesday, per SNY Yankees on X.
"I've got a really supportive family that understands that this is my job and it's not going to affect what happens (Wednesday)," he added.
Fried has been sensational for the Yankees ever since he signed, but the Yankees need him to have his best start of the year against the Rays. The Yankees need to win three straight games to advance, and the offense is really struggling.
Fried will need to keep the Rays' runs to a minimum to give his offense a fighting chance, unless they suddenly wake up in Game 3. Carlos RodΓ³n is slated to start Game 4. If the Yankees win both Fried's and RodΓ³n's starts, they will likely start Gerrit Cole in Game 5, but Cam Schlittler should also be available in some capacity on short rest.
The Yankees face an uphill climb to get to the American League Championship Series, but luckily they have Fried on the bump to start what could be an amazing comeback.
