The New York Yankees lost Game 2 of the American League Division Series, and the lack of offense and poor defense were on full display.
The Yankees' offense looked great against the Boston Red Sox, but they cannot seem to get the big hit against the Rays. The team also made four errors in total, giving Cam Schlittler very little help all night. Yankees legend CC Sabathia told it how it was on X after the game.
Same number of errors as hits is not gonna get it done…need more from the lineup beyond Rice and Wells. Back to the Bronx 🙏🏾

Schlittler is going to win the American League Cy Young Award, but having to throw extra pitches after three first-inning errors led to a shortened outing for him. He gave up six hits and four total runs in 4 1/3 innings of work. Only two of the runs were charged to him.
The lone bright spots for the Yankees were Ben Rice and Austin Wells. Wells, after being abysmal offensively for most of the season, is hitting .417 with a .940 OPS in the postseason. Rice had a two-homer game, providing all of the Yankees' offense.
The Rays played a clean game defensively, and their refusal to strike out puts a ton of pressure on the Yankees' defense. Going back to the Bronx now, the Yankees have to play better baseball and try to force a Game 5.
