Alec Bohm has been with the Philadelphia Phillies since 2020, but now he will hit the open market for the first time.
He was an All-Star in 2024, but has declined in each season since then. This year, he posted a .698 OPS in 155 games. The Phillies will have to decide if they want to keep him, but he made it clear that he wants to stay.
"To be honest with you, I have no idea what to expect, but I would love to be back if they would have me back," said Bohm to NBC Sports Philadelphia after the game.
He admitted that he has not given too much thought to the future, but he should have a solid market in free agency, despite his recent woes. This season, he moved to first base after Luis Arraez arrived in Philadelphia, so more teams could be interested in him.
Additionally, he ended the season playing very well. In his last 47 regular-season games, after moving to first base, he posted a .821 OPS, and he hit a game-winning home run in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series. He had four hits against the Atlanta Braves in the Phillies' Wild Card matchup against them.
He wasn't an elite defender at first base, but a better defender than he was at third base. Perhaps an offseason working at first base could make him a better defender there. Teams with a need at first base could certainly show interest in him if they think his offensive surge to end the season is sustainable.
