The Chicago White Sox haven't had much success in October, winning just one World Series since the end of World War I. That was in 2005, which was followed by two decades without a playoff series win.

That drought finally ended on Wednesday, however, as the White Sox beat the Houston Astros 7-3, sweeping the AL West champions in the AL Wild Card Round. Chicago also won on Wednesday, 6-3.

Unsurprisingly, the White Sox won behind their big bats, which were a strength during the regular season. They slashed .271/.358/.371 and outhit the Astros 19-11.

Chicago had lost its three previous playoff series but still managed to beat Houston, which has been a mainstay in October for the last decade.

Now the White Sox will try to get past the Cleveland Guardians, who finished one game ahead of them in the AL Central standings. Chicago is one of the best stories in baseball after losing 121 games two years ago.
