The current MLB playoff format has not been kind to the Boston Red Sox, who are 0-2 in wild card round series so far.
Last year, they became the first team to blow a 1-0 series lead since the new format was introduced in 2022, losing Games 2 and 3 to the New York Yankees after winning Game 1 behind Garrett Crochet.
This year was even worse for the Red Sox, who made more embarrassing history in their rematch with the Yankees.
Boston got blown out in both games, getting outscored 18-2. It was the most lopsided wild card series to date in terms of run differential. It was also the first time in MLB history that one team scored at least 90 percent of the runs in a playoff series with at least 20 runs.
It was a nightmare series for the Red Sox, who never led at any point and suffered back-to-back epic meltdowns from the best bullpen in baseball. They still haven't won a playoff series since 2021 and must keep adding to their roster this winter if they want to get deeper into the postseason.
