The Chicago Cubs had the best offense in baseball this year, leading the sport in runs per game, OPS, total bases and more during the regular season.

Unfortunately, their potent lineup completely disappeared once the playoffs started.

The Cubs managed just one run and eight hits in their two games against the San Diego Padres this week, getting swept in the NL Wild Card Series. They batted a collective .129/.229/.145 with one extra-base hit, seven walks and 19 strikeouts, posting the lowest slugging percentage in a multi-game playoff series in MLB history.

Chicago didn't score until the fourth inning of Game 2 and never led in the series. Per OptaSTATS, their one run was the fewest ever by an MLB scoring leader in a multi-game postseason series.

Including the regular season, the Cubs scored two runs or fewer in six of their last eight games. Their bats simply went cold at the worst possible time, and their crazy travel schedule probably didn't help.
