The Milwaukee Brewers secured their first 100-win season in franchise history on Thursday.
By the end of the night, the Brewers had also clinched the National League's No. 1 seed. In a season that has continuously defied the odds, the Brewers stamped their resume with one more special feat. They became the first 100-win team in MLB history to reach the century mark without a winning streak longer than five games, according to Brewers' senior director of media relations Mike Vassallo.
Last season, the Brewers had a 14-game winning streak and ended up setting a new franchise record for wins at 97. They reached that mark with a week left to play this year, and have a chance to finish with 103 total wins. They have three games against the St. Louis Cardinals remaining.
The Brewers were one of seven franchises without a 100-win season, alongside the Toronto Blue Jays, Miami Marlins, Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers and Colorado Rockies. While the 100-win mark is great, Brewers fans are more interested in seeing their team make a deep run in October.
The Brewers have never won a World Series, and this is the best team they've ever had. The biggest concern, however, is their lack of power. The Brewers do not hit many home runs, and, in fact, rank dead last in the National League in home runs and rank 28th in all of baseball.
The last team to win the World Series without finishing top-five in home runs in the regular season was the 2019 Nationals. The Brewers' lack of home runs has not stopped them from scoring runs, though. They rank second in all of baseball in runs scored, and have the best run differential in the big leagues as well. They are the only team with a run differential above 200.
