MLB's exclusive 40/40 club got a new member on Thursday.
Chicago Cubs superstar Pete Crow-Armstrong joined the club during Thursday afternoon's game against the Miami Marlins with his 40th stolen base of the year. After drawing a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first, he promptly stole second base during the Cubs' next at-bat, wasting no time. He advanced to third base on a flyout but was stranded there.
With 45 home runs and counting, Crow-Armstrong is just the seventh player in MLB history with at least 40 homers and 40 steals in the same season, joining Shohei Ohtani, Ronald Acuna Jr., Alfonso Soriano, Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds and Jose Canseco.
It's been a banner season for the 24-year-old center fielder, who's likely going to win the NL MVP award. He leads the Majors in numerous offensive categories, plays elite defense, is a stellar baserunner, and hasn't missed a game this year.
With the Cubs all but certain to make the playoffs, fans are excited to see what he can do in October.
